"Great!"

submission: Alter

A bit slow, though. But that's really my only complaint (and I only just now read your author comments, warning that it's not terribly fast-paced. I should've paid attention earlier, no?). The idea's great, the art is fantastic (if sometimes jumping's a mess between not knowing exactly where a cliff face "is" and where Quark "is", etc.) and it was really fun to play, the first runthrough. Classic quark? Awesome. Which reminds me, I also rather enjoyed "Awesome" as a secondary bar to "Karma." And the game's storyline, especially the ending, I found rather interesting. I'll probably come back and play this all through again sometime, and I'm sure I'll discover a ton of stuff I missed.

"Ehhh Mochi Games..."

date: December 29, 2009

The upgrades are expensive as all get out. I figured it'd be fine, since the game saved your progress, until I checked the other reviews and saw that it doesn't unless you have, I assume, a Mochi Games account? The prices wouldn't be too bad if you could return to the game again and again, but I'm just not convinced it's worth playing long enough to get anything good if you don't have an account.

It's a good game, but I think you brought it out in a way that makes unlocking all the unlockables not worth the effort and that doesn't give it any real replay value. I did like the addition of ground tricks, though, and the baseball bat added some comedic point-gathering options as well. So, an improvement in overall ideas and trick varieties, but worse for the reliance on a Mochi account to really play.

"A solid game"

The only complaint I have is that after a few moments playing it, you've seen it all. I enjoyed the faster falling acorns, that was a good move toward what I wanted to see, but I don't think it quite got there (maybe I just got knocked out before I got to faster falling pinecones? I got to 9250). It was good and fun, and a great way to waste a few minutes while drinking hot chocolate, I just don't see any replay value.

"Ehh..."

It's a nice try, but something about it just doesn't work. I'm so used to WASD that using a one-button system seems a bit clunky, especially because of how difficult it was to time jumps. Sometimes after letting go I'd jump, sometimes not, and the only way to guarantee it was to hold the button down for a while, which didn't work so well on some of the levels. For my part, I say make the levels more difficult and just let us use WASD or the arrow keys, but it was an interesting idea.

"Beautiful, but..."

I'm playing a cup. I'm up, 705 total points vs. the AI's 250. That means I'm ahead by 455 points. I've won two rounds, skunked the AI on one of them. Then the AI beats me for one round, 275 to 160; a victory by 115 points.

Mathematically, I'm still ahead by 340 points. Even taking into account only the net number of rounds won, I'm still ahead 2 to 1. So why do I have to restart the cup from the beginning, when I'm still clearly winning?

You get a 2 for the graphics. They're nice.

"Good, but..."

date: October 13, 2009

I do agree with Menen, if you could've had C and X for the special moves it would've been nice (while I'm a WASD/mouse person usually, but if it's all keyboard control using WASD feels wrong...probably 'cause I'm right handed).

The only other thing that bugged me is that you could get squashed by a piece that landed next to you. I'm a huge fan of the grab+roll, so I got killed by this quite a lot (since I ended up next to pieces falling). It seemed to happen most when pieces fell to my left, so maybe the character occupies more space there than you had planned?

Overall, though, I like the game. And the achievements!

"Good game"

submission: Soda Man

But it starts off really slowly, though the late game is pretty great. The only major complaint I have is how after you beat it, you lose all your upgrades and have to start all over. I would've preferred it if I could've kept my upgrades and tried to max them all while trying to get all the achievements. Still, a good game.

Hedgehog Launch 2

"Great, but short"

submission: Hedgehog Launch 2
date: July 10, 2009

It was great, but considering how easy it is to get to Mars after the Moon (I got so much money I bought just about all of the upgrades), I had expected it to continue into the entire solar system (ending with something like, "use a hedgehog to prove Pluto's really a planet!").

But, it was great fun, so I can't really complain. Good game, built on a fairly simple concept. I especially liked the "fuel sucker" upgrade (great when you're on the low levels of "fuel tank", though I think the "e-rocket" might be a bit overpowered after about level 2.

"Interesting."

I like this, it's interesting...as a game, and as a platform for the idea. And the music was pretty good and fit your Game Boy theme very nicely, as did the graphics.

Connect Wars v1.1

"Good, but:"

submission: Connect Wars v1.1

In a game like this, the "swap" trump is a bit overpowered. It makes a total victory way too easy (because you have to block the enemy from making five-in-a-row, and that block can be switched).

Something I think would be nice: have you ever played Pente (a board game almost identical to this)? In Pente, there's a rule for capturing - if you get one of your pieces on either side of a row of two enemy pieces, you capture them. I think that'd be a better feature than the "swap" trump; it allows you to open space and makes for more strategy instead of just clicking to win.

But, this is an interesting game and I'm looking forward to seeing future versions of it.
